Delivering Professional Laboratory Environments for a Leading University Technical College
Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology (formerly UTC Cambridge) is a university technical college (UTC) that opened its doors in 2014. Located on the prestigious Biomedical Campus in Cambridge, the college is situated next to Long Road Sixth Form College and is dedicated to providing specialist STEM education for students aged 14–19.
Project Overview
InterFocus was appointed to deliver a complete laboratory furniture and installation package for the newly built UTC Cambridge campus. The design brief was to create a modern, professional learning environment that reflected the advanced, real-world settings of commercial laboratories—moving away from the traditional school classroom model.
Project Scope
Our scope of works included:
Manufacture and installation of bespoke laboratory furniture, designed for durability, functionality, and modern aesthetics
Fabrication and fitting of Trespa TopLab® Base worktops, ideal for high-performance science environments
Supply and installation of fume cupboards and extraction systems, ensuring a safe and compliant laboratory space
Installation of sinks, taps, and ancillary items, supporting the practical needs of science teaching and learning
The Outcome
The project successfully delivered a suite of state-of-the-art science laboratories that enable students at the Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology to develop critical skills and knowledge in a professional-grade learning environment. These new facilities support the UTC’s mission to prepare young people for careers in science, technology, and engineering.
